Shetland Sheep

Shetland sheep are an ancient landrace breed with Viking roots. Don't let their diminutive size fool you, Shetlands are a hardy breed that are highly adapted to withstanding the harsh conditions of the islands with which they share a name.
The Livestock Conservancy has Shetlands listed as a rare but recovering heritage breed of sheep. They are known for their fine wool with its beautiful array of colors and patterns. Shetland wool is admired by many hand spinners for being fine, soft, and strong.
As members of the Livestock Conservancy, we participate in the Shave 'em to Save 'em program which encourages the production of wool and wool products as a way to increase the number of endangered rare sheep breeds. Simply put productive sheep equal productive farmers therefore promoting more sheep.
We are dedicated to the preservation of this primitive breed and its roots. As a way to maintain the purity of type we have brought in genetics directly from the UK! Our breeding program will begin this Fall 2026.
