The ancient practice of "telling the bees" is deeply rooted in Celtic folklore. A quick synopsis for those who may be unfamiliar; you tell the bees your important news and the bees deliver that message to your ancestors of the spirit realm. It is viewed as a way to keep our loved ones informed.

To some it may sound a bit far fetched but I don't see how it is any different than worship in idols, gods, and deities. A person's belief system is a part of their own personal journey and we all have chosen a system that we carry in our lives. Telling the bees might make it easier for you to process a major event in your life, it could also help put things into motion that didn't seem possible. Likewise, prayer (however that looks for you) during times of celebration, times of hardships, or times of loss can be an effective way of processing and manifesting.

As an End-of-Life Doula I have sat vigil while others face their mortality. I have also trained to begin exploring my own mortality and death. What is my purpose in this lifetime and what is my purpose beyond this lifetime? What is important to Self during your final Earthly hours? What is beyond this realm? Humans frequently have a belief system to help them make sense of the world and their role within it. It could be a social role, a family role, or a more personal relationship with a Higher Power; or perhaps all.

As someone nears transition there is a shift within the complex dynamics of a family. Human beings process this shift most often through strong spiritual values. Some speak to their Gods while others speak to Nature. Most often a family's values are a culmination of intrinsically unique beliefs and rituals passed down for generations. Is it possible that we connect to our ancestors by following an ancient path of spiritualism passed down by generations? It could be, if nothing else, a true manifestation of Love.
